Rivendell House is a spacious, self catering, comfortable farm house located in the heart of the KZN Midlands mist belt in the beautiful Curry’s Post. This is the original farmhouse, situated on Rivendell farm.
Rivendell offers comfortable accommodation for business people or families wanting to get away for a relaxing break. This free-standing 4-bedroom home can accommodate 8 people and is situated on 50 acres of protected grassland where Leopard, Reedbuck, Duiker, Cape Clawless Otter, Porcupine, Caracul, and Cerval roam freely.
The main bedroom is large and private with an awesome en suite bathroom, huge shower, and a separate toilet. A Queen size bed and ample built in cupboards ensures your complete comfort during your stay.
One other bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed, while the remaining 2 bedrooms are fitted with 2 single beds each. All have plenty cupboard space. These 3 bedrooms share a large bathroom with a huge bath, shower and toilet.
There is a 3rd toilet off the lounge area. Business people, we have a small nook with a large desk and chair where you can conduct any business should you need to.
The lounge area is comfortably furnished, and on those cold winters nights feel free to build a fire in the fire place and warm up the lounge.
Please note there is no WiFi at all, we are 400 m from a cellphone tower with good signal.
Self catering means bring your own food, personal toiletries, washing up liquid, fire lighters, etc. We will supply a few toilet rolls but bring enough to last you. We do have firewood for sale so just ask.
The fully equipped communal kitchen has a gas stove, electric oven, huge fridge/freezer as well as all the necessary electric appliances.
There is sheltered parking for 2 vehicles in the double undercover parking bay.
Wake up to the sounds of wild pigeons or Fish Eagle in the distance. Take a long stroll around the property on the many pathways, even pack a picnic as you meander around surrounded by the 100 or more species of bird life, and all the wild flowers and grasses. Depending on the time of the year, you can even swim in the large dam, albeit at your own risk. During winter, the dam is usually dry as we are situated in the summer rainfall area of the county.
Winters are extremely cold, with the temperature dropping below freezing, so be sure to pack enough warm clothes and even gloves are essential.
Rivendell Farm is situated on the Midlands Meander route, so pick up a Meander magazine and plan your meanderings. Ever popular are the mountain bike rides available, Karkloof Canopy Tours, the various eating and dining venues, as well as all the other attractions associated with the Midlands Meander.
Rivendell House follows a strict sanitization program with respect to the Covid pandemic. The entire house gets sanitized from top to bottom. All surfaces are wiped down as well in accordance with regulations. Plus the linen gets thoroughly cleaned at the laundromat in Howick immediately after the premises are vacated.
We embark on a fumigation program as well, as an added level of sanitization.
